Animation

The 4 Steps to Animation Success.

Our team of animation experts understand the animation process is one that can be difficult to get right when starting off. There are a lot of moving parts and several factors to consider throughout; however, if you nail these 4 areas within your animation, you are guaranteed to create a professional level of animation that feels considered and to a high quality. Read more about our 4 golden rules below.

1. Planning & Creative Development

Every project starts with an idea, so developing a clear brief is an essential step toward consolidating ideas and creating engaging content that’s perfect for your business. But, whether you have a fully formed brief or just some ideas in a notebook- conversation is key during the planning and creative development of your projects. Workshops are a great way to produce ideas and proactively discuss all aspects of your project. At Magenta, we can help run workshops for your business; we can ensure there is an end result from the discussion, with a plan of action and steps towards creating your piece of high quality content.

Our Workshop Process:

1. Key Messaging. Through our workshops, we clarify the messaging your animation video needs to communicate to what audience and where it’ll be shared online. The focus of your project is to get your message to the right people on the right platforms, so let’s make sure it happens! Our in-house team are experts in delivering animation services that connect with your audience.

2. Pacing. Simply put, this is how fast or slowly your animated video passes through scenes, speed the voiceover is delivered, and the tempo of the music chosen. We’ll make sure that we find a pace that’s right for the subject matter, as well as keeping on brand with your business to tie in with the rest of your collatoral.

3. Tone and Energy. These are important aspects of the workshop process. Just a casual conversation over a coffee (and maybe a biscuit) lets us produce your animated video to the letter. Discussing what you want your animation to feel like, the energy you want it to bring to the viewer and the tone the content will portray means we capture the essence of your brand, services or product, whilst delivering your essential messages.

4. Illustration and Design. As a creative bunch, we know that there are copious ways to create and illustrate your animated video. Whether it be through character design or stylised infographics, our design and illustration department come equipped with suggestions, ideas and visual examples to help guide and inspire your decision.

2. Script Creation & Narrative

Whether your video has dialogue or not, a run-down of how the video will operate is essential to guide your viewer through a story that makes sense. From Product Explainers to Brand Videos, a narrative helps to detail your story from beginning to end; splitting the script up into sections for you to focus on creating and developing visual ideas for each part. At this stage, we can ensure discussions from the workshop, such as pace and tone of voice, fit in well with early visuals that we create. From on-screen text to voice overs, there’s many ways to deliver your key information with maximum impact and we can help you decide what’s right for you.

3. Storyboard & Animatic

Once happy with the narrative and script we meet the storyboard phase – this is where visual ideas really come to life. Storyboards provide a detailed, frame by frame illustrated timeline to compliment the dialogue of the animation. Providing a visual of how the scenes work together, storyboards provide a holistic overview of the animation project and provide direction when creating the final content. Once a storyboard is structured, an animatic helps tie everything created so far together. Simply put, they’re the basic version of the animated video, with basic illustration, animation and cut together with the correct timing and pace of the video. This means we can see how the piece will move and interact as one. Basic sound effects, soundtracks and dialogues alongside movement in the storyboard means animatics are a fantastic tool that allow us to make changes without committing to high level illustration or animation from the get-go.

4. Animation & Sound Design

Safe in the knowledge that you’re happy with the narrative, script, storyboard and animatic, we can crack on and dive into the main production phase of your animated video. Since we have a multi-skilled animation department, capable of motion graphics, 3D animation, CGI renders and traditional frame-by-frame techniques, we can use any and all of these when putting together your animation project. But, our skills don’t stop with the visual side of things. We’ll use music and sound effects to tie everything together before presenting you with an initial draft. Feedback is essential, so we bounce back and forth with you, sharing ideas and suggestions before delivering you your final awesome animated video.
